Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 October 2026

The short version

  • We don't collect any personal information. BuildBuddy has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
  • Everything stays on your device. Models, maker profiles and printer settings are stored only on the iPhone or iPad where you created them.
  • We never sell or share data, because we never receive any.
  • The app only uses your home network to talk to your own 3D printer.

Who we are

BuildBuddy is made by Luke Moseley, an independent developer ("we", "us"). If you have any questions about this policy or your child's privacy, email buildbuddy@ldmo.dev.

Information we collect

None. BuildBuddy does not send any information to us or to anyone else. The app has no servers, accounts, analytics, crash-reporting tools, advertising or third-party code that collects data.

Information stored on your device

To work, BuildBuddy keeps some information in its own private storage on your device. It never leaves the device, and we can't see it.

WhatWhy
Maker profiles: a first name or nickname, an emoji and a colourSo each child has their own space for their models. A real name isn't needed, and any nickname works.
Models, their pictures and print countsSo children can come back to what they've built.
Printer details: printer model, name, network address, serial number and access codeSo the app can send models to your printer. Access codes are kept in the device's secure Keychain.
Print settings and which tips have been seenTo remember your choices and avoid repeating tips.

If your device is backed up to iCloud or a computer, this information may be included in that backup under Apple's terms. BuildBuddy itself doesn't sync anything.

Local network and your printer

When you set up or use a printer, iOS asks permission for BuildBuddy to use your local network. The app uses it only to:

  • find printers on your Wi-Fi network when you tap "Find my printer";
  • send the models you choose to print to your printer;
  • show print progress, temperatures and printer status.

These messages go directly between your device and your printer on your home network. They don't go to us. Your printer's own manufacturer software and cloud services, if you use them, have their own privacy policies.

Files you import

If you choose to import a 3D model file (such as an STL file) from the Files app, BuildBuddy only reads the file you pick and keeps a copy in the model you add it to. It can't see any other files.

Children's privacy

BuildBuddy is designed for children aged 8–12 and for use with a parent, carer or teacher. Because the app doesn't collect, store on our side, or share any personal information, we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. This policy is written with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, the UK GDPR and the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in mind.

Printer setup and grown-up settings are behind a simple parent check, so children can't change network settings by accident.

Third parties

BuildBuddy contains no third-party advertising, analytics or tracking code, and doesn't link to social media.

Apple provides the App Store and may collect information as described in Apple's Privacy Policy. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. These don't identify you or your child.

Deleting your information

You're in control of everything BuildBuddy stores:

  • delete a model or maker profile inside the app;
  • remove a printer in the Printer tab, which also removes its saved access code;
  • delete the app to remove its models, profiles and settings from your device.

iOS may keep Keychain items after an app is deleted. If you also want saved printer access codes erased, remove your printers in the app before deleting it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information that a company holds about you. Because we don't hold any information about you, there is nothing for us to give, change or delete. Everything is on your own device. If you have a question or concern, contact us and we'll be happy to help. In the UK you can also contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Changes to this policy

If BuildBuddy ever changes how it handles information, for example by adding optional accounts in a future version, we'll update this policy and the date at the top before that change goes live. If a change means we would collect any personal information, we'll ask for a parent's permission first where the law requires it.
